It’s that time of year again, time for camp! Most likely if you’re involved in planning camp for your kids you are thick in the midst of the details. When I was a children’s pastor and director of our camp I was always looking for creative events to do with kids. Bonfires are always a hit at camp and this idea is perfect for a fun evening activity around the campfire.
I was speaking at a camp in northern Minnesota last winter when I discovered the awe of campfire donuts. This was a winner of an idea that the kids loved! Snow is not needed to make this work but it sure was fun.
First, get some coffee tins of oil heating up over the campfire. Obviously, the cooking part needs to be handled only by adults.
Make sure you have a lot of refrigerated biscuit dough on hand.
Give each kid a biscuit and let them start forming it into a donut. Don’t worry about germs, that oil is hot and burns it all off.
note: donut-style creations are the best for this because the donut is sure to get cooked through. BUT let the kids have fun and be creative, it doesn’t matter.
